| 1. Scout Handbook (Newly revised handbooks are now available) | $7.95* |
2. Scout Uniform - Class A
|
Webelos shirt can be worn $28.00* $6.70* $4.65* Furnished By Troop |
| 3. Hiking Boots: By them large so that they can last 2 years. A good entry level boot will run between $60.00 to $120.00. Look for boots on Sale. The boots should have Vibram sole or better. If they are not Gore-Tex Lined then they will have to be waterproofed. Redwing Shoe's, local Camping Stores such as Backwoods, Dicks, Alpine Hut, Sticks and Stones and Campmor mail-order house will be good sources. | Range $60.00 to $120.00 |
| 4. Back Pack: External Frame type. Cabelas and other have good packs, both internal (recommended for high adventure) and external frame, with scout discounts. This should be a one time expense. | Range $45.00 to $90.00 |
| 5. Sleeping Bag: This should also be a one time expense. Look for a 3 lb fill of Hollofil II, with total weight of 4 lbs.and rating of 15 to 20 degree's. There are also some better fill materials available such as Polargard HV. Goose down fill has always been a great lightweight fill for sleeping bags. Several providers have Slumberjack Fahrenheit 10 Hollofil bag for $70.00 and a North Face - Blue Kazoo goose down bag for $130.00 (sale item, reg. $199.00) Campmor has some Coleman bags that are a little less money and could be a good source. The sleeping bag is one of the places you look for to cut down on weight for a backpack trip. You can always add liners and bring additional blankets for extreme cold weather camping. | Range $70.00 to $130.00 |
| 6. Foam Pad: Closed Cell 1/4" pad is a good selection. It won't soak up water. You can also buy at a local foam store a thicker foam pad which can be cut down and covered with water resistant material. An 1-1/2" thick eggshell type foam 20" to 28" in width and 48" to 72" in length is a very comfortable pad. Keeping this type pad dry is very important because it will soak up water. Air Mattresses will not be allowed on a High Adventure Trip or during Cold Weather campouts because they offer no insulation from the ground. | Range $11.00 to $30.00 |
